What To Do If Your Child Is Sick

If your child is unwell, they must stay home. Even if they don't seem to have Covid, or they tested negative, many illnesses are highly contagious AND your child will be uncomfortable in school all day! Please notify your child's teacher and Attendance@ps290.org

What happens if a student has symptoms of COVID-19 or a diagnosis of COVID-19?

  • If a student has any symptoms, such as fever, cough, nausea, runny nose, headache, (see CDC), they must take a Covid test and may return to school only after a negative result and 24 hours. If they had a fever, they can return to school after they have not had fever for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

  • If the child received a positive test for COVID-19, whether they had symptoms OR never had symptoms, they must stay home for 10 days after the date of their positive COVID19 test.

Please visit the NYC Department of Education website for important updates.

COVID-19 Testing In School

The DOE has begun random COVID-19 testing in schools for grades 1-12.  Parental consent is required for a trained professional to do a quick, non-invasive test. Parents are urged to please complete a consent form for the benefit of the community.

-  You can send back to school a hard copy consent form OR

-  You can provide consent online in your New York City School Account (NYCSA), also known as your MyStudent Account.

Annual Appeal

Each year the PTA raises money to cover the school expenditures and programs not paid for by the Department of Education. Our major fundraiser each year is the Annual Appeal. This money helps pay for our school’s exceptional teaching assistant staff, music and arts programs, science supplies and much more.

Donations can be made at: mnspta.org/donate .
